Doing the whole dotcom thing. I was hugely satisfied by the election. Gobama! And frustrated by the election. What gives, CA voters? I am so embarrassed that I cried in bars, even though I swore I would stop. Once again,...

i wish there was an easy way to figure out how many times “maverick” was said on fox news in 2008. . . i really want to know. .
good question. i wonder how this could be done. here’s a blogpulse trend search for “maverick” during the past 6 months and the same for google trends, over the past 12 months. no big surprises there.
Not for FOX, specifically, but...
Just hanging out
Last night, my friend/boss/faux lil bro Evan came over to hang out. We drank some wine. Watched some episodes of House. Kicked it a bit. And then he went home.
This was marvelous!
I feel like this sort of very low-key hangout is something I’ve been missing horribly since moving to San Francisco. I go out for delicious meals and head to parties, bars and other various outings with regular...

Roomies: Hasan and Reggie Episode 1 - ‘The Test’ on Vimeo (via Vimeo)
I used to work with Hasan until he quit to be the amazingly funny comedian that he is on a full-time basis. This is the first episode of his show Roomies. Hee hee.

What is interesting is that this is technically in Kenwood — which starts at 51st St. No one ever seems to mention this little fact. I think the Hyde Park angle with the U of C somehow makes a better story. But I do find is...

Seven years ago, or so, a friend lent me kitchen confidential. i don’t know why it took me so long to pick it up and start reading it. maybe because my books have been sitting in boxes. it is, quite possibly, the perfect book to read after finishing 100 years of solitude.

Printemps was my favorite department store in Paris. They had this ridiculous thing going on where each year France chooses a country to sort of… celebrate? When I was there, it was Brazil, and every department store had a whole Brazil display,...
I get that Gawker/Jezebel/Valleywag need to increase pageviews because they need to make more money. That part I get.
But if you make the snippets so small that you don’t even have an incling to click on the rest of the story, that seems sort of like two steps forward, one step back.
I do not kid: since their redesign, I have yet to click on a single link to see the story jump

Me: Oh, you know. I’m making some sweets.
Mom: Sweets?
Me: Yeah, you know. Swedish pudding and cookies.
Mom: …Oh.
Me: It’s not like a dinner party or something.
Mom: Oh, that’s what I was asking. So it’s more like an hors d’oeuvres party?
Me: Uhh….maybe? Not really?
Mom: So what kind of party is it?
Me: …a….drinking party?
