I Was Hit By A Car Today
In San Francisco, there’s a never ending turf war between cars and bikes. And between bikes and other bikes. Generally, I think of myself as someone who tries to ride safely, always with a helmet and lights, a general avoider of the type of antics that tend to frustrate other cyclists and drivers.
But none of that really matters, because I was hit by a car today while riding to work. The car was turning right, I was going straight, and was right in between the cars moving on my left, and the cars parallel parked on my right. As we passed the parked cars, the car veered into me and down I went.
I’m fine. My elbow and leg are banged up (I fell over on my right side, with my bike on top of my right leg, right elbow kinda braking my fall, and left leg free). My bike is a little out of alignment, but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed — just need to take it into the shop.
It’s more the feeling of being jolted that I can’t shake. I’m still unsettled, and this happened three hours ago. And sitting in front of my computer, trying to work like nothing happened, isn’t helping.
